The Datai Langkawi
Opening its doors in 1993, The Datai Langkawi, a flagship property under the Group, is among the most awarded luxury hospitality resorts in the world today. Extraordinary care was taken to preserve the resort’s rainforest surroundings, a visionary endeavour that began long before the idea of conservation and sustainability gained momentum as a global movement.

In harmony with nature

An intricate plan was conceived to bring the audacious idea of The Datai Langkawi to fruition. In staying faithful to the task of creating a sense of belonging to the jungle, architect Kerry Hill and designer Didier Lefort eschewed heavy machinery. Trees were felled sparingly and sustainably used in construction of buildings that still stand today while new trees were cultivated to respectfully replenish what was taken. Construction materials were selected to honour the Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultural heritage, paying homage to the unique diversity that the country is built upon.
